What deadlines

More than 70 billion DH is the amount of investment mobilized by the development programs in the Oriental region since the launch of the Royal Initiative. This volume of investment, never before achieved, concerns the main areas of socio-economic activity. Large infrastructure programs: - Fes-Oujda highway (320 km, $ 9 billion DH), construction started in the first quarter of 2007, projected completion in 2010.  The Mediterranean ring road which will connect Saidia to Tangier, ongoing completion in 2008 and already completed on the eastern section Saidia-Nador, up to Hoceima. The duplication of the road-Oujda Nador (120 km, projected completion in 2008-2009).  The railway Taourirt Nador that will connect Nador to the entire national rail network (117 km). The Mar Chica project in Nador, a maritime-tourist complex of 11 billion DH. Also, the pole of industrial development for the Oriental Region (MED EST) should generate an investment of 25 billion DH:

  • An intra-port free zone of 20 ha in Nador;
  • An extra-port free zone (50 hectares expandable to 300 hectares) in Nador;
  • An industrial park in Selouane (72 ha);
  • An industrial park in Madagh;
  • A technopole park, adjacent to the Airport of Oujda (370 ha available).

Booming industries

Tourism and related activities: Saidia, where the Mediterrania Saidia project will generate, in 2006-2007 nearly 8,000 direct jobs and 42,000 indirect jobs. The investment amounts to 12 billion DH. Opportunities exist in support activities (catering, entertainment, hinterland tourism, vehicle rental, transport, etc...).

Mar Chica project in Nador, launched during the summer of 2007, aims to create a maritime-tourist site on the cornice of Nador which will include the Lagoon of Mar Chica. The amount of expected investments achieves more than 13 billion DH. In addition, 32 sites are identified with high tourism potential (mountain tourism, archaeological tourism, rural tourism, etc.).
